This app is a key component of a museum exhibit showcasing The Analogous City.
The app complements a museum installation dedicated to The Analogous City—an architectural artwork by Aldo Rossi, Eraldo Consolascio, Bruno Reichlin, and Fabio Reinhart, originally presented at the 1976 Venice Architecture Biennale. Utilizing augmented reality, it enhances a physical reproduction of The Analogous City (accessible via http://archizoom.epfl.ch) by digitally overlaying references and contextual layers above the artwork.
Visitors require this application to fully experience the digital elements of the exhibition Aldo Rossi - The Window of the Poet, Prints 1973-1997 at Bonnefanten Museum (Maastricht), Archizoom EPFL (Lausanne), and GAMeC (Bergamo).
Purchasing the Analogous City map reproduction from Archizoom allows users to recreate the museum installation's interactive experience anywhere. This printed edition includes essays by Aldo Rossi, Fabio Reinhart, and Dario Rodighiero.
Originally envisioned as an urban planning concept, The Analogous City (La Città Analoga) incorporates historical references spanning centuries: Giovanni Battista Caporali's Vitruvian City (1536), Galileo's Pleiades constellation sketch (1610), Tanzio da Varallo's David and Goliath painting (c.1625), Borromini's San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane plans (1638-1641), the Dufour topographic map (1864), Le Corbusier's Notre Dame du Haut chapel design (1954), alongside Rossi's own architectural works.
"Existing between history and modernity, reality and fantasy, the analogous city may simply represent the ongoing urban design process—confronting challenges with the conviction that solutions will emerge." – Aldo Rossi on The Analogous City, Lotus International n.13 (1976).
