Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP: A Remaster's Resounding Success

Released late last year, the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has reportedly surpassed 200,000 units sold, demonstrating strong player demand. Despite initial technical hiccups and some controversy, the game's sales figures highlight its enduring appeal.

Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for the No More Heroes series), Lollipop Chainsaw is a vibrant action-hack-and-slash game. Players take on the role of Juliet Starling, a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling a zombie horde. While the original developers didn't helm the remaster, Dragami Games delivered a visually enhanced version with improved gameplay features.

Several months after its September 2024 launch across current and last-gen consoles, and PC, Dragami Games announced the impressive sales milestone on social media.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Triumph: A Celebration of Sales

The game casts players as Juliet, a San Romero High cheerleader who discovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun. Fast-paced, hack-and-slash combat using Juliet's chainsaw is reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta.

The original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 achieved even greater success, selling over a million copies. The unique collaboration between Goichi Suda and James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) significantly contributed to the game's initial popularity.

While future DLC or a sequel remains unannounced, the RePOP's sales success bodes well for remasters of similar titles. This positive reception follows the recent release of another Grasshopper Manufacture title, Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, also proving successful on modern platforms.
