MK1: Homelander and Omni-Man to Feature Unique Movesets
In an engaging interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on the much-anticipated inclusion of Omni-Man and Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1. Fans had expressed concerns about the potential similarity in combat styles between these two iconic characters. Boon was quick to reassure the community, emphasizing that NetherRealm Studios is committed to crafting unique experiences for each hero.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
During the IGN interview, Boon detailed the creative process behind differentiating Homelander and Omni-Man. He stressed that the developers have been given ample creative freedom to explore various concepts for these characters. However, they are consciously avoiding overlapping abilities that might make them too similar. Boon noted, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that."
Boon also revealed that the team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to create distinct Fatalities for each character. He emphasized, "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'” This approach ensures that players will feel as though they are controlling two entirely different heroes, despite any superficial similarities.
