Payday 3 Offline Solo: Catch Revealed
Payday 3's upcoming "Boys in Blue" update introduces a highly anticipated offline mode, albeit with a temporary caveat: an internet connection is still required. This addition follows significant player feedback regarding the game's initial lack of offline solo play.
Starbreeze Entertainment, the developer behind the popular Payday series, originally launched Payday: The Heist in 2011. Known for its cooperative gameplay, focusing on elaborate heists in luxurious locations, the series balances stealth mechanics with a diverse arsenal of weapons. Payday 3 enhanced stealth options, providing greater player agency in mission approaches.
The June 27th update will debut the new offline mode, initially in beta. While a fully offline experience is planned for future updates, players will need to connect to the Payday 3 servers for now. This eliminates the need for solo players to use the matchmaking system, addressing a key complaint. The update also includes a new heist, free items, and various improvements. A new LMG and three masks will expand the game's weaponry and customization options, and players will be able to name their custom loadouts.
Starbreeze acknowledges the rocky launch of Payday 3, citing server issues and limited initial content (only eight heists). CEO Tobias Sjögren issued a public apology. While future updates will add more heists, these expansions, like the "Syntax Error" heist, will be paid DLC. The upcoming offline mode update represents a continued effort to address player concerns and enhance the overall solo gameplay experience. The team is committed to refining the offline mode based on player feedback.
