Yukiko's Castle serves as the first major dungeon in Persona 4 Golden. Despite its relatively short length (seven floors), it provides a crucial learning experience, introducing players to the game's mechanics and combat system.
While the initial floors present minimal difficulty, later levels introduce the Magical Magus, a formidable random encounter. This guide details its weaknesses and effective strategies for defeating it.
Magical Magus Weaknesses and Skills in Persona 4 Golden
The Magical Magus employs several high-damage skills, primarily fire-based attacks. Equipping fire-resistant accessories, obtainable from golden chests within Yukiko's Castle, is highly recommended. These accessories also prove beneficial during the final boss battle.
When the Magical Magus begins charging magic, utilize the Guard command on your next turn. It frequently casts Agilao, a powerful tier-two spell capable of eliminating unprepared party members. While Hysterical Slap inflicts significant physical damage (hitting twice), Agilao poses the more significant threat. Strategically, it's advisable for Chie and Yosuke to focus on guarding, minimizing their risk of being incapacitated, while the protagonist, who has access to light skills at this early stage, takes the offensive.
Early-Game Persona with a Light Skill in Persona 4 Golden
Archangel is the optimal early-game Persona possessing a light skill, namely Hama. Archangel also learns Media at level 12, a valuable skill for the final boss encounter. This level 11 Persona can be fused using:
- Slime (Level 2)
- Forneus (Level 6)
In Persona 4 Golden, light and dark skills function as instant-kill moves. Hama, targeting the enemy's weakness, boasts a high success rate, often resulting in an immediate enemy defeat. This makes the otherwise challenging Magical Magus a relatively easy target. Given Archangel's high level, farming this enemy can be advantageous, provided you have sufficient SP-restoring items or are willing to enter the boss fight with reduced SP.
