Pokémon Pocket Paralysers: All the Cards That Strike with 'Paralyze'
This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, a digital adaptation of the popular card game. The guide covers what Paralyze is, how it works, how to cure it, and strategies for incorporating it into a deck.
What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

The Paralyzed condition immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a single turn, preventing attacks and retreats. This effect automatically dissipates at the start of the opponent's next turn (after their Checkup phase).
Paralyzed vs. Asleep
Both Paralyze and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyze resolves automatically, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific counter-strategies (like evolving or retreating the Pokémon) to cure.
Paralyzed in Pokémon Pocket vs. Physical TCG
Unlike the physical TCG, where cards like Full Heal can remove Paralyze, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks direct counter-cards. The core mechanic—preventing attacks and retreats for one turn—remains consistent.
Pokémon with Paralyze Abilities

Currently, only three Genetic Apex cards inflict Paralyze: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. Each uses a coin flip, making the effect unreliable.
Curing Paralyzed

Four methods exist to remove the Paralyzed status:
- Time: The effect ends automatically at the start of your next turn.
- Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon instantly cures it.
- Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the effect (as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
- Support Cards: Currently, only Koga (under specific conditions with Weezing or Muk) offers a counter.
Best Paralyze Deck

Paralyze alone is insufficient for a strong deck. Combining it with Asleep (e.g., using Articuno & Frosmoth) is more effective. A sample Articuno & Frosmoth Paralyze/Asleep deck is detailed below:
| Card | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Wigglypuff ex | 2 |
| Jigglypuff | 2 |
| Snom | 2 |
| Frosmoth | 2 |
| Articuno | 2 |
| Misty | 2 |
| Sabrina | 2 |
| X Speed | 2 |
| Professor's Research | 2 |
| Poke Ball | 2 |
This provides a more robust strategy than relying solely on the chance-based Paralyze effect.
