11 Bit Studios Draws Parallels Between This War of Mine and The Alters
11 Bit Studios, the acclaimed Polish developer, has unveiled a new trailer for their much-anticipated sci-fi adventure, *The Alters*, which is drawing ever closer to its release date. In this latest update, the studio took a moment to reminisce about their groundbreaking wartime survival game, *This War of Mine*, which catapulted them to international fame more than a decade ago.
While *This War of Mine* is renowned for its stark, bleak atmosphere, *The Alters* introduces a more spirited and at times humorous storyline, focusing on the trials and tribulations of alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the shift in tone, the developers highlight a deep thematic link between the two games.
Although *The Alters* and *This War of Mine* differ significantly in their settings and emotional tones, they both delve into the core theme of survival. In *This War of Mine*, players confront the brutal realities of war, managing scarce resources and navigating daily challenges to keep a group of civilians alive in a besieged city. In contrast, *The Alters* reimagines survival as a relentless race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the deadly effects of an all-consuming sun that turns everything to dust.
Both titles challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, pushing them to explore dangerous territories in search of vital resources. The key distinction between the two games is in their protagonists: *This War of Mine* features a group of ordinary civilians, whereas *The Alters* introduces a unique team made up of different versions of the central character, Jan Dolski.
*The Alters* is slated to launch in 2025, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, ensuring a wide audience can experience this innovative survival adventure.
