2025 Alienware Aurora 16, 16X Gaming Laptops Now Available
Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its new mainstream lineup of 2025 gaming laptops, named the "Alienware Aurora." The first 16" models are now available for purchase at Dell. The Alienware Aurora 16, not to be confused with the desktop model, is the more budget-friendly option. It comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the other hand, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the premium model, featuring an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, and is available for $2,299.99. Both models are expected to start shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both laptops can be pre-ordered with an RTX 5060 GPU, though these are currently on preorder with no shipping ETA due to the RTX 5060 not yet being released.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops move away from the typical gamer-centric design of other Alienware models, such as the recently released Area-51. These laptops adopt a sleek, minimalistic look that resembles standard laptops, with a thin profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Alienware Aurora 16, for instance, only features white keyboard illumination, reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. Despite their understated exteriors, both the Aurora 16 and 16X are packed with robust gaming components and feature a Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is slightly thinner and lighter due to its more efficient components, including a low-voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and an RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. The Aurora 16X, with its slightly thicker and heavier build, accommodates more powerful cooling to support a higher-performance Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and an RTX 5070 GPU with a maximum 115W TGP.
Compared to the Alienware Area-51, which starts at over $3,000, both Aurora models offer a more affordable entry point into high-performance gaming laptops. They are also more travel-friendly, being up to 1.6 pounds lighter and up to 30% thinner than a similarly sized Area-51 16" laptop. Prices are not expected to drop significantly soon, especially with Nvidia GPU prices potentially increasing in the near future, as reported by Tom's Hardware.
Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model
For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the clear choice. For an additional $300, you get a significantly more powerful laptop with several upgrades that justify the price premium. The enhancements include:
- Better display (2560x1600 240Hz G-Sync vs 2560x1600 120Hz)
- More powerful CPU (Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX vs Intel Core 9 270H)
- Higher TGP rating for RTX 5070 (115W TGP vs 85W TGP)
- Double the RAM (64GB vs 32GB)
- Double the storage (2TB vs 1TB)
- Better material (metal top and bottom vs metal top only)
- RGB keyboard
- Thunderbolt 4.0
