A Recap of the Original Happy Gilmore
For those needing a refresher, here's Netflix’s official summary of the original film:
At the end of Happy Gilmore, Sandler’s beloved underdog finally finds peace after a grueling season on the golf tour—and one unforgettable showdown with Bob Barker from The Price Is Right. In a last-ditch effort to save his grandmother’s house from the IRS due to unpaid taxes, Happy, a failed hockey player with an unconventional swing, takes to the greens and shocks the golf elite.
Along the way, he forms memorable alliances—like with Carl Weathers’ Chubbs Petersen and Allen Covert’ homeless caddy—and battles bitter rivals like Shooter McGavin and Bob Barker. Against all odds, Happy prevails, proving that heart and hustle can beat tradition and ego. He saves the house, wins the tournament, and returns home triumphant.
While it remains to be seen how Happy Gilmore 2 reignites his golf career, one thing is certain: Happy’s legacy lives on—not just in comedy, but even among real-life golf legends who still admire the character.
Production news first broke on the sequel in [March 2024], with Netflix officially greenlighting the project by [May 2024]. Directed by Kyle Newacheck and written by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy, Happy Gilmore 2 promises to deliver more laughs, more swings, and more unforgettable moments when it premieres this summer.
