"Alien: Earth Release Date, Episode Count, and New Story Revealed"
Alien: Earth is set to debut its first two episodes on August 12, airing simultaneously on Hulu at 8pm ET and on FX and Disney+ internationally at 8pm PT / ET. Following this premiere, new episodes of the eight-episode season will drop every Tuesday.
Set in the year 2120—well after the events of *Prometheus* and just two years before the iconic *Alien*, where the ill-fated crew of the Nostromo encounters terror beyond comprehension—*Alien: Earth* follows the mysterious deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot as it crash-lands on our planet. The story centers around a young woman named Wendy (played by Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers who make a chilling discovery that thrusts them into direct confrontation with Earth’s most terrifying threat.
For context, the recently released interquel *Alien: Romulus* takes place between *Alien* and *Aliens*. This positions *Alien: Earth* within a richly layered timeline, expanding the universe while maintaining ties to established lore.
In this era, Earth is under the control of five dominant corporations: Weyland-Yutani (the infamous antagonist corporation from the franchise), Prodigy, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. Humanity coexists with cyborgs and synthetics—humanoid robots powered by artificial intelligence. However, the balance shifts when the CEO of Prodigy unveils hybrids: synthetic beings infused with human consciousness. Wendy is the very first prototype of this groundbreaking—and controversial—technology, aligning with the series’ ongoing exploration of immortality and artificial life.
Here's where things get even more intriguing: following a collision between a Weyland-Yutani spacecraft and Prodigy City, Wendy and her fellow hybrids come face-to-face with unknown life forms described as “more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined.”
This hints at the presence of multiple monstrous entities throughout the series—possibly including various types of Xenomorphs. In fact, reports suggest there may be as many as five distinct alien species featured.
In the year 2120, Earth is ruled by five major corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. During this Corporate Era, humans share the planet with cyborgs and synthetics. The game changes dramatically when the brilliant Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation introduces a revolutionary technology: hybrids—synthetic beings enhanced with human consciousness. Wendy, the first hybrid prototype, ushers in a new age in the pursuit of immortality. But after a Weyland-Yutani spacecraft crashes into Prodigy City, Wendy and the other hybrids are forced to confront life forms far more horrifying than anything previously known.

Back in January of last year, showrunner Noah Hawley clarified why he chose not to incorporate the backstory established in *Prometheus* for *Alien: Earth*. He expressed a preference for the "retro-futurism" seen in the original films. Although Hawley discussed many elements of the franchise—including its connections to the prequels—with director Ridley Scott, he ultimately decided to move away from the bioweapon narrative in favor of embracing the mythology of the original *Alien* films.
The *Alien* universe is currently experiencing a resurgence. *Alien: Romulus 2* is already in development, and fans can also look forward to a crossover of sorts with the Predator franchise via *Predator: Badlands*, signaling a bold new chapter for both iconic sci-fi horror series.
