Alienware's Area-51 Now Supports RTX 5090 GPU
Dell has revitalized the iconic Alienware Area-51 lineup of prebuilt gaming PCs earlier this year, initially limiting configurations to a single graphics card, the RTX 5080. However, exciting news for gamers: you can now enhance your Alienware Area-51 with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU and the powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, starting at $5,499.99. The best part? You won't have to wait long, as Dell estimates shipping to begin in early April.
Alienware Area-51 RTX 5090 Prebuilt Gaming PCs Are Available
Alienware Area-51 Intel Core Ultra 9 285K RTX 5090 Gaming PC (32GB/2TB)
The base configuration for the Alienware Area-51 equipped with the RTX 5090 GPU starts at $5,500, which is a premium price point, but the specs justify the cost. This model boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The Intel Core Ultra 9 285K stands as Intel's latest flagship CPU, delivering exceptional performance for both gaming and workstation tasks. Although it doesn't quite reach the performance levels of the i9-14900K, it remains Intel's top offering at the moment. The system is cooled efficiently with a 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a robust 1,500W 80Plus Platinum-rated power supply.
New for 2025: The Alienware Area-51 Chassis
At CES 2025, Dell introduced the latest iteration of the Alienware Area-51 gaming PC. The new chassis, while retaining a familiar look to the 2024 R16 model, features significant aesthetic and cooling upgrades along with updated components. The I/O panel has been relocated to the top of the case, and the tempered glass now covers the entire side panel for a sleek and expansive view. Air intakes at the bottom and front of the case facilitate a positive airflow design, reducing dust accumulation inside. The internal components have been upgraded with a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more powerful power supply to support the latest generation of CPUs and GPUs.
The RTX 5090 Is the Most Powerful Graphics Card Ever
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 stands as the most potent consumer GPU currently available. Despite Nvidia's focus on software enhancements, AI features, and DLSS 4 technology to boost gameplay, the RTX 5090 offers a significant 25%-30% increase in raw raster performance over the RTX 4090. Additionally, it features more (32GB vs 24GB) and faster (GDDR7 vs GDDR6) VRAM. Due to its high demand, the RTX 5090 is challenging to purchase at retail prices and often sells for $3,500-$4,000 on eBay.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE Review by Jackie Thomas
"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has claimed the performance throne from the RTX 4090, albeit with a modest generational improvement in traditional non-AI gaming scenarios. However, in games that support DLSS 4, the performance leap is substantial, though it relies heavily on AI-generated frames."
