AMD Radeon RX 9070 GPUs Finally Get Official Release Window — but Still No Price

Feb 24,25

AMD's highly anticipated RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards, unveiled at CES 2025, are finally getting a release date: March 2025. This announcement, made via Twitter/X by David McAfee, VP & GM of Radeon Graphics and Ryzen CPUs, confirms the RDNA 4 architecture GPUs will arrive next month.

McAfee stated that the "Radeon 9000 series hardware and software are looking great," promising a wide global availability. However, crucial details remain undisclosed, including precise specifications and pricing. Industry speculation points to the RX 9070 series competing directly with Nvidia's RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, slated for a February launch.

Intriguingly, despite the lack of official announcements, reports suggest that RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT cards have already reached retailers and reviewers. eTeknix, for instance, has confirmed receiving review samples.

PlayThis unusual situation has fueled speculation about AMD's strategy. The delay could be a calculated move to directly counter Nvidia's February releases, allowing for a more strategic head-to-head comparison. Another theory suggests pricing pressure from Nvidia influenced the decision.

The lack of concrete information surrounding the RX 9070 launch has resulted in a confusing and somewhat disorganized rollout. Considering Nvidia's commanding 88% share of the discrete GPU market (June 2024 report), as opposed to AMD's 12%, AMD faces a significant challenge in disrupting Nvidia's dominance. The success of the RX 9070 series hinges on a well-executed launch and compelling market positioning.
