Avowed: Should Ilora Be Freed?
At the start of Avowed, you face a crucial decision: free the suspicious prisoner Ilora from her cell in Fort Northreach, or leave her fate sealed. Your ultimate goal is to use her boat to reach Paradis, but the choice you make here significantly impacts your journey. This guide explores whether freeing or abandoning Ilora is the better option.
Should You Free or Leave Ilora?
While Avowed encourages player agency, freeing Ilora is strongly recommended. This path simplifies Fort Northreach and unlocks a later side quest.
What Happens If You Free Ilora in Avowed?
Freeing Ilora provides invaluable assistance in overcoming Fort Northreach's challenges, including defeating Steadman Ralke, the area boss. Early in the game, your resources are limited, making Ilora's aid crucial. Beyond immediate benefits, rescuing her significantly eases the "Escape Plan" side quest later on.
How to Free Ilora
Ilora reveals the key to her cell is located in the Warden’s Room. Reach the end of the hallway, climb the crates, jump to the platform, and enter the passageway above. Break through the boards to your right to access the Warden’s Room. The key is near the door. Regardless of your choice regarding Ilora, use the key to unlock the adjacent cell and obtain the Deerskin Gloves.
What Happens If You Don't Free Ilora in Avowed?
Choosing to leave Ilora imprisoned significantly increases the difficulty of Fort Northreach and the "Escape Plan" side quest. Furthermore, she won't remain incarcerated; you'll later face her in combat, adding another layer of challenge to your escape. However, this path does allow you to loot her body after defeating her.
Ultimately, the decision rests with you. But weighing the advantages of freeing Ilora—easier gameplay, access to a smoother side quest—against the minor reward of looting her corpse, the choice becomes clear.
Avowed is available now.
