BioWare Veteran Departs Amidst Dragon Age Development

Feb 24,25

Corinne Busche, director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reports her departure, expected in the coming weeks, follows her tenure as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last October. EA has yet to comment.

The Veilguard's commercial performance has been a subject of speculation since its release. While Eurogamer states Busche's exit is unrelated to the game's sales, EA's official stance on whether revenue met expectations remains pending. Their Q3 2025 financial results, scheduled for February 4th, may shed light on this.

BioWare has confirmed no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, shifting focus to Mass Effect 5. This follows August 2023 layoffs affecting approximately 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby. These personnel changes coincided with broader internal restructuring at EA, dividing the company into sports and non-sports divisions, and fueled rumors of BioWare's potential acquisition. The decision to transition Star Wars: The Old Republic to a third-party publisher was reportedly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The 2024 reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (previously titled Dreadwolf) initially faced negative fan reaction, prompting a swift release of gameplay footage to address concerns. Despite the initial backlash, subsequent impressions were generally positive.

The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. Whether BioWare will receive the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard is now a question for fans.
