Black Myth: Wukong, an action RPG drawing inspiration from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, will launch on Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2025, marking one year since its debut on PS5 and PC.

Xbox announced the release on Twitter/X, stating, "Embrace your destiny. Black Myth: Wukong arrives August 20. Pre-orders open June 18!"

Black Myth: Wukong has achieved massive success, selling over 25 million copies by January 31, 2025. Its absence from Xbox Series X/S was notable, as it was never explicitly marketed as an exclusive.

Some reports attributed the delay to a Sony exclusivity agreement rather than technical challenges, but Game Science CEO Fen Ji pointed to the Xbox Series S as the cause.

“The Xbox version was the missing piece,” he explained, per machine-translated comments, “but the 10GB of shared memory posed a significant challenge without extensive optimization expertise.”

Those hurdles now appear resolved, allowing Xbox players to soon experience this title in their collections.
