Bloodborne, the critically lauded RPG released in 2015, holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. The desire to revisit Yharnam's gothic streets on modern consoles is widespread. Although no official announcement has been made, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring the game have reignited the fervor.

On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One image featured Djura, a memorable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The other two depicted the player Hunter exploring Yharnam's core and the Charnel Lane graveyards.

While these posts might simply be a nostalgic throwback for FromSoftware, dedicated Bloodborne players on platforms like Twitter (X) are meticulously analyzing every detail, searching for any hint confirming the long-awaited remaster. The community feels particularly teased, especially given a similar post by PlayStation Italia on August 17th.

PlayStation Italia's post, translated, reads: "Swipe to see some of Bloodborne’s most iconic locations! A journey through gothic atmospheres and dark mysteries. Which is your favorite?" The comments section reflects the intense desire for a Yharnam return, with many sharing favorite locations and humorous suggestions about a PC or modern console release.

The Hunt for Bloodborne on Modern Consoles Continues – Almost a Decade On

Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne has cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase, earning widespread praise and recognition as one of the greatest video games ever created. Despite its success, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.

Fans often cite the 2020 Demon's Souls remake (originally released in 2009) as a potential precedent for a Bloodborne revival. However, this hope is tempered by concerns about potential delays. Given Demon's Souls' decade-long wait for a remake, fears exist that Bloodborne might face a similar fate. As the game approaches its tenth anniversary, the anticipation is palpable.

In a February interview with Eurogamer, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki further fueled the speculation. While not confirming anything definitively, he acknowledged the advantages of remastering the game for modern hardware.

"I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value," Miyazaki stated. "However, I wouldn’t say that’s the be all and end all. I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important."

Despite Miyazaki's encouraging comments, the final decision rests not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring (which FromSoftware fully publishes), Bloodborne's rights are held by Sony.

"Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically," Miyazaki explained in a separate IGN interview. "We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it."

Bloodborne's passionate community continues to hope for a remaster. Despite critical acclaim and strong sales, Sony has yet to expand its availability beyond the PlayStation 4. Only time will tell if the current speculation translates into a tangible reality.
