Carey Mulligan Joins Barbie Director's Narnia Reboot Cast
The much-anticipated reboot of the Narnia franchise, helmed by Greta Gerwig, who wrote and directed the acclaimed Barbie movie, has added the talented Carey Mulligan to its ensemble cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins a stellar lineup that includes former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the iconic Meryl Streep.
Gerwig, who is both writing and directing this new interpretation of C.S. Lewis's beloved fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia, will bring her unique vision to the project. The upcoming film will adapt the series' prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, which is set before the events of the well-known The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Carey Mulligan, known for her critically acclaimed performances that have earned her numerous nominations and awards including Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes, will portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young hero, Digory. Daniel Craig will take on the role of the titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will play a younger version of Narnia's infamous White Witch. Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the character of Aslan, the series' revered talking lion.
This isn't the first time Narnia has captivated audiences on the big screen. A previous trilogy of films, released between 2005 and 2010, adapted the first three books of Lewis's series: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Those films featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan.
Gerwig's venture into the world of Narnia marks her first major project following the success of the 2023 Barbie movie, which became a surprising box office hit. The film, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, received eight Academy Award nominations and won for Best Original Song.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is slated for release in 2026, promising fans a fresh and exciting take on the cherished series.
