"Civilization 7 Prioritizes QoL Improvements Over First Event"
Civilization 7 will postpone its planned first in-game event to prioritize essential quality-of-life improvements. This article provides details on the upcoming update and what fans can expect in the future.
Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) will delay its first in-game event to focus on implementing much-needed quality-of-life improvements. Firaxis Games shared an update on February 28, 2025, including a Development Roadmap that outlines the future of Civ 7.
Update 1.1.0 is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles, with a different release date for Nintendo Switch. Initially, the update was set to introduce the "Natural Wonder Battle" event, but Firaxis has decided to postpone all events to allow more time for quality-of-life enhancements. They stated, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access release, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, particularly regarding its user interface (UI). Firaxis has acknowledged this feedback, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The upcoming update for Civ 7 will focus on addressing community feedback. While the full list of update notes will be available at release, Firaxis has provided a preview of what players can expect.
A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be added for players to explore for free. The update will also include significant UI adjustments, addressing players' concerns. Additionally, changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory will be implemented, with AI leaders becoming more adept at achieving a Cultural Victory.
Alongside these improvements, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis stated, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
The next major update for Civ 7 is planned for March 25, 2025, though this date may change. This update will continue to focus on improving the game's UI, as Firaxis emphasized, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond the March updates, Civ 7 will continue to refine and enhance its gameplay. Planned improvements include adding a "one more turn" feature to extend gameplay beyond the Modern Age, implementing auto-explore, introducing new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), enhancing multiplayer support, and more.
Firaxis noted, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
