Civilization VII: Firaxis Hints at Gandhi's Return

Feb 20,25

Civilization 7's launch has left many veteran players questioning the absence of a familiar face: Mahatma Gandhi. A staple of the series since its inception in 1991, Gandhi's omission is notable, especially given his association with the infamous (and ultimately mythical) "Nuclear Gandhi" bug.

However, Civilization 7 lead designer Ed Beach offers reassurance. In a recent statement, Beach confirmed that Gandhi's absence isn't due to oversight. Instead, his inclusion is planned for future DLC.

Beach addressed concerns about missing civilizations, citing a longer-term roadmap for content additions. He highlighted that iconic civilizations like Mongolia and Persia were also absent from previous base games (Civ 5 and Civ 6), emphasizing the need to balance established favorites with fresh additions. He confirmed that while some choices must be made, Gandhi's inclusion remains a future possibility.

The statement offers hope for Gandhi's eventual return.

Meanwhile, Firaxis is likely addressing the mixed user reviews on Steam. Criticisms center around the user interface, limited map variety, and the perceived lack of key features at launch. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback but expressed confidence in the game's long-term success, suggesting that the "legacy Civ audience" will become more accepting with continued play.
