James Gunn and Peter Safran have confirmed that The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman to the DC Universe (DCU), definitively ruling out Robert Pattinson's portrayal. During a DC Studios presentation, Safran and Gunn clarified that Pattinson will remain exclusive to Matt Reeves' Batman universe, titled The Batman Epic Crime Saga. Gunn stated unequivocally, "It's certainly not the plan," regarding Pattinson's inclusion in the DCU. Safran added, "We love him, but we've got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. That's imperative. And so that's the plan with The Brave and the Bold."

Speculation about Pattinson's potential crossover into the broader DCU arose earlier this year when Reeves himself hinted at the possibility.

Reeves, speaking to Josh Horowitz at the Golden Globes, explained his focus on The Batman Epic Crime Saga, stating, "It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense... James and Peter have been really, really great about that and they’re letting us do that." He emphasized his commitment to The Batman Part 2, adding, "What the future brings? I can’t really tell you."

Safran expressed enthusiasm for Reeves' vision, stating they "love" his plans for The Batman Part 2 and are "looking forward to this film." While a script is still in progress, Safran described what they’ve read as "very encouraging."

The Brave and the Bold is currently in "very active development," with the story progressing well. Regarding director Andy Muschietti's involvement, Safran and Gunn explained that they are actively developing the script and will present it to Muschietti once it’s ready, to assess its suitability. Further announcements regarding The Brave and the Bold are promised "very soon."

The Batman Part 2's release date has been pushed back to October 1, 2027, resulting in a five-year gap between the first and second films. Regarding the implications for The Brave and the Bold's release, Safran only confirmed an October 2027 release for a Batman film.

While fans await The Brave and the Bold for Gunn's interpretation of Batman, a brief appearance in Creature Commandos Episode 6 showcased a rooftop-dwelling Batman observing Doctor Phosphorus. The image presented a classic Batman silhouette, with limited detail.

Gunn clarified this stylistic choice to Rotten Tomatoes TV, explaining that he requested a more silhouetted figure, initially preferring a less detailed representation. This cameo, however, subtly establishes Batman's pre-existing presence and established status within the DCU, negating the need for an origin story, as he’s already a well-known figure.

Gunn further hinted at a future team-up between the DCU Batman and Superman, stating, "This is the DCU Batman... I love him. We're going to do great things with him. He's the most popular superhero in the world and I can't wait for people to see more of him, along with Superman, and together."
