Elytra is a distinctive and scarce item that grants the ability to glide, revolutionizing the way you explore Minecraft's vast world. In Survival Mode, Elytra can only be found naturally in the End dimension, specifically within Ships near End Cities. However, there are alternative methods to acquire them in different game modes, which we'll delve into shortly.
How to Get Elytra in Minecraft in Survival Mode
Preparing for Battle
Embarking on the quest for Elytra requires thorough preparation. Equip yourself with Diamond or Netherite armor, preferably enchanted for added protection. Arm yourself with an enchanted sword and bow—consider enchantments like Infinity or Power for your bow to engage the Ender Dragon from a distance.
Stock up on ample arrows or a crossbow loaded with fireworks for effective combat. Potions of regeneration, strength, and slow falling are essential for health restoration, damage enhancement, and safe landings. Carry food, especially golden apples, for emergency healing, and blocks to reach the End Crystals. To avoid Endermen aggression, wear a carved pumpkin on your head during the battle.

Activating the Portal to the End
To reach the End, you'll need to activate the portal with 12 Eyes of Ender, which also help locate the Stronghold. Craft an Eye of Ender using Blaze Powder, obtained from Blaze Rods dropped by Blaze mobs in the Nether Fortress, and Ender Pearls, which drop from Endermen.
Blaze Powder is relatively easier to obtain since Blazes are confined to Nether Fortresses. Conversely, Ender Pearls can be challenging to gather, as Endermen spawn sporadically on the surface or in caves.

Finding the Stronghold
Use the Eye of Ender to locate the Stronghold by activating it and following its trajectory. Once you're close, dig down to uncover the ancient labyrinth filled with hostile mobs like skeletons, creepers, and cave spiders. Inside the Stronghold, locate the portal room and fill the frame with Eyes of Ender to activate the portal to the End.

Battle with the Dragon
Upon entering the End, the battle against the Ender Dragon begins. Prioritize destroying the End Crystals to prevent the dragon's health regeneration. Use a bow and arrows or manually destroy them. Attack the dragon when it's airborne or perched on the portal, using your bow at a distance and your sword up close.
After defeating the dragon, an End Gateway portal appears. Toss an Ender Pearl into it to teleport to the outer islands, where you'll search for End Cities and their accompanying Ships.

Inside the Ship
Navigate to the Ship near the End City, where you'll likely find Elytra within an Item Frame on the wall. Break the frame to claim the wings and loot any additional rewards from the chests. Be prepared to face Shulkers, the ship's guardians.

To repair Elytra, place an Anvil and insert the wings into the left slot and leather into the right slot. Confirm the repair and retrieve the restored Elytra from the right slot.
