Astro Bot's Triumph in the Shadow of Concord's Failure

A Study in Contrasts: Sony's Two Sides

September 6th marks a mixed bag for Sony. While the company confronts the indefinite closure of its ambitious project, Concord, Astro Bot, its highly anticipated 3D platformer, launches to overwhelmingly positive reviews.

The critical reception of Astro Bot stands in stark opposition to the underwhelming performance of Concord. Currently, Astro Bot boasts a Metacritic score of 94, placing it among the highest-rated standalone titles of 2024. Only Elden Ring's expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, surpasses it with a score of 95. Other notable 2024 releases, including Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (both at 92), Animal Well (91), and Balato (90), trail behind.

Game8 awarded Astro Bot an impressive 96, highlighting the game's completeness and even suggesting it as a potential Game of the Year (GOTY) contender. For a comprehensive review of Astro Bot and Team ASOBI's exceptional work, please see our review below!
