A cinematic adaptation of the original Kane & Lynch game – developed by Hitman studio IO Interactive in 2007 – remained in development limbo for years with multiple Hollywood stars cycling through potential casting.

This week, Nobody 2 director Timo Tjahjanto revealed on social media that he'd developed a film treatment featuring Stranger Things' David Harbour (Jim Hopper) and James Badge Dale in the lead roles.

"Never seen a script, but couple years ago when that property was still kinda hot, I wrote a short treatment envisioning David Harbour and James Badge Dale," Tjahjanto shared. "Unfortunately, nothing materialized."

Tjahjanto's treatment joins numerous abandoned concepts for the adaptation. For years, Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx were attached before departing amid endless script rewrites.

A later iteration reportedly considered Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel for the titular roles before stalling completely.

After the lukewarm reception to 2010's Kane & Lynch: Dog Days sequel, IO Interactive ultimately shifted focus entirely to expanding its Hitman franchise, leaving the crime duo's cinematic potential unrealized.
