Dell and Alienware RTX 4090 Gaming PCs Start at $2,850

May 07,25

The GeForce RTX 4090, while a generation older than the new Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains one of the most powerful graphics cards available, surpassing the performance of the GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. The only GPU that outperforms it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously difficult to find without significant price markups.

As the RTX 4090 has been discontinued, it's becoming increasingly challenging to find. Fortunately, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PC models equipped with this powerhouse GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 starts at $3,299.99, while the Dell Tower Plus begins at $2,849.99. These are among the best deals for an RTX 4090-equipped system, as many other manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have ceased offering RTX 4090 prebuilt gaming PCs.

Alienware Aurora R16 RTX 4090 Gaming PC

Priced at $3,299.99 at Alienware, this Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC comes with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The CPU can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, but for gaming, the default Intel Core Ultra 7 265F, with its 5.3GHz max turbo frequency and 20 cores, is more than sufficient. The system is cooled by a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

Dell Tower Plus RTX 4090 Gaming PC

Originally $3,149.99, now available for $2,849.99 at Dell with a 10% discount, the Dell Tower Plus gaming PC features similar specs: an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. For an additional $100, upgrading to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K is recommended, as it not only offers superior performance but also upgrades the cooling system to a more robust "advanced air cooling" setup, suitable for a 125W TDP compared to the standard 65W TDP. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?

The RTX 4090 remains the pinnacle of RTX 40 series GPUs. Only the RTX 5090, with its $2,000 MSRP, offers superior performance. The RTX 4090 can handle any game at 4K resolution with ease, delivering over 60fps with all settings maxed out, including ray tracing, especially when DLSS is utilized. The only exception is path tracing, which is generally not used outside of benchmarks or social media showcases. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's performance is more than adequate, making the RTX 5090's additional power somewhat unnecessary.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but its performance is unmatched. It's the only card from its generation currently available, making comparisons to older models inevitable. Yet, with its impressive specs and DLSS 3 AI technology, the $1,599 price tag seems justified for the exceptional frame rates it delivers."
