Dishonored 2 Gets Surprise Update 9 Years After Launch
Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox
Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title, has received a small, unexpected update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The update, weighing in at a mere 230MB (though requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), appears to focus on bug fixes and language file updates.
Developed by Arkane Lyon, Dishonored 2, released in late 2016, introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding upon the original's acclaimed gameplay and level design. While Arkane Lyon is currently immersed in developing Marvel's Blade, the update demonstrates continued support for this beloved title. This is in contrast to the unfortunate closure of Arkane Austin, the studio behind the original Dishonored and Prey, which impacted the overall output of Arkane Studios.
The update's brevity has led to some disappointment among fans, who had hoped for a performance enhancement, particularly a much-requested 60 FPS mode. Unlike other Arkane titles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS on current-generation consoles. While a 60 FPS patch for the game's tenth anniversary in 2026 remains a possibility, the long wait is a significant consideration.
The lack of a major update also fuels speculation about a potential third mainline Dishonored game. With Arkane Austin's closure and Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade, the development of a new Dishonored title seems distant, if even under consideration. The future of the Dishonored franchise remains uncertain for now.
