DOOM Now Playable on Apple's Lightning/HDMI Adapter
The DOOM community's passion for running the iconic game on unconventional platforms continues to push boundaries. Recently, a tech enthusiast known as NyanSatan achieved a remarkable feat by successfully running the classic shooter DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter. This adapter, equipped with its own iOS-based firmware and a processor capable of reaching up to 168 MHz, provided the perfect canvas for this experiment. NyanSatan accessed the adapter's firmware using a MacBook, as the device itself lacks memory, showcasing the ingenuity required to bring DOOM to life on such a unique platform.
In other exciting DOOM news, the upcoming iteration, DOOM: The Dark Ages, promises to be more accessible and customizable than any previous id Software project. Players will have the ability to adjust the aggression levels of demons through the game's settings, catering to a wide range of player preferences and skill levels. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized the studio's commitment to making the game as inclusive as possible. Players can look forward to modifying various elements such as enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, the amount of damage they sustain, and even the game's tempo, level of aggression, and parry timing.
Stratton also clarified that understanding the narrative of DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal does not require prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages. This approach ensures that new players can jump into the series without feeling lost, while still providing depth and continuity for long-time fans.
