Dragon Quest 3 Remake: Unlock the Yellow Orb's Power
This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest III Remake. While the process isn't inherently complex, finding the starting point can be challenging. This guide will clarify the steps involved.
The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially designated as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave to establish the settlement. The town's growth is crucial to obtaining the orb.
Locating Merchantburg (???)
After receiving the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg's location becomes accessible. It's situated in the northeast corner of the world map, reachable by sailing west from the eastern continent's coast.
Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg
While orb acquisition order is flexible, establishing Merchantburg early is advantageous. The town requires significant growth time before yielding the Yellow Orb. Starting early allows parallel progress on other orbs.
Obtaining the Yellow Orb
- Hiring a Merchant: Before heading to Merchantburg, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route.
-
Establishing Merchantburg: In Merchantburg's sole building, speak to the old man. Offer your newly hired merchant to establish the town. The town's name will then be revealed.
-
Merchantburg's Growth: After establishing the town, proceed to acquire the Purple Orb (Orochi's Lair) and the Blue Orb (Gaia's Navel). You'll receive notifications prompting return visits to Merchantburg as it expands through five stages. The final stage involves a large cabaret. On your fourth visit, note the merchant's growing unpopularity.
- The Yellow Orb's Location: Visit Merchantburg at night during the fifth and final stage. The merchant will be absent, having been imprisoned by the townsfolk due to his unpopularity. Speak to him in his jail cell (the building south of his home). He will reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to his home; the orb is hidden behind the sofa, marked by a quest marker.
The Yellow Orb is usually the penultimate orb acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
