DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: THE DARK PRINCE CHARMS MOBILE AND PC ON SEPT. 11
TouchArcade Rating: Last year's Switch release of Square Enix's monster-collecting RPG, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, was a delightful experience, despite some technical hiccups. Its charm and engaging gameplay easily surpassed other Dragon Quest spin-offs on the platform, rivaling the exceptional Dragon Quest Builders 2. While a PC port was anticipated shortly after the Switch launch, similar to Dragon Quest Treasures, a mobile release seemed far off. However, Square Enix surprised us today, announcing that the previously Switch-exclusive title will arrive on iOS, Android, and Steam on September 11th, bundled with all previously released DLC, including the Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Digital Deluxe Edition content. Check out the trailer below:
Comparison screenshots showcasing the game's appearance on mobile, Switch, and Steam are available on the official Japanese website. Here's one example:
Importantly, the store listings confirm that the online real-time battle mode from the Switch version will be absent in the Steam and mobile versions.
The Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is currently priced at $59.99 (standard) and $84.99 (Digital Deluxe Edition). Having thoroughly enjoyed the Switch version, I'm eager to revisit it on iPhone, iPad, and Steam Deck upon its September 11th launch. Square Enix's swift rollout to mobile is a welcome change, especially considering the typical delays seen in bringing Dragon Quest titles to mobile, as exemplified by Dragon Quest Builders. The mobile price is set at $29.99, while the Steam version will cost $39.99. Pre-register now on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android)!
Have you already experienced the adventures of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince on Switch? Will you be giving the mobile or Steam versions a try in two weeks?
Update: Added comparison image and website information.
