Rapid and deadly, the Dual Blades excel at delivering rapid-fire strikes. Understanding both their Demon and Archdemon modes is crucial for success in any hunt.
All Moves
Command | Move | Description |
---|---|---|
Triangle/Y | Double Slash/Circle Slash | A fundamental combo starter. Press Triangle/Y once for a Double Slash, then again for a Circle Slash. |
Circle/B | Lunging Strike/Roundslash | A slashing attack that advances you towards the monster. A second press performs a Roundslash. |
R2/RT | Demon Mode | Activates Demon Mode, boosting attack power, movement speed, evasion, and granting knockback immunity. |
Triangle/Y + Circle/B (In Demon Mode) | Blade Dance I, II, III | Powerful attacks chained together in Demon Mode, consuming the Demon Gauge. |
Triangle/Y + Circle/B (In Archdemon Mode) | Demon Flurry I, II | A series of attacks exclusive to Archdemon Mode, consuming the Demon Gauge. Use the analog stick to direct the flurry. These can be chained with Blade Dance attacks using R2/RT. |
Cross/A (During Demon/Archdemon Mode) | Demon Dodge | A faster dodge in Demon/Archdemon Mode. A Perfect Evade triggers a damage buff and allows attacking while dodging. Demon Dodge doesn't consume the Demon Gauge in Demon Mode. |
L2/LT + R1/RB | Focus Strike: Turning Tide | A powerful slash effective against wounded monsters. Hitting a wound triggers a Midair Spinning Blade Dance, capable of damaging multiple wounds simultaneously. |
Demon Mode/Demon Gauge and Archdemon Mode
The Dual Blades' unique gauge mechanic. Demon Mode enhances your abilities but drains stamina. Successful attacks in Demon Mode fill the Demon Gauge. A full gauge activates Archdemon Mode, granting even greater power but consuming the gauge over time. Mounting a monster pauses the gauge depletion.
Demon Dodge
Executed after a Perfect Evade, Demon Dodge increases damage and allows attacking while dodging, providing a 12-second damage buff. Subsequent dodges during this buff deal additional damage.
Combos
Dual Blades combos revolve around Demon and Archdemon Modes. Mastering these transitions is key to maximizing damage.
Basic Combo
A simple three-hit chain: Double Slash, Double Slash Return Stroke, and Circle Slash. Reliable damage in most situations. Alternatively, use Circle/B three times (Demon Flurry Rush – Spinning Slash – Double Roundslash) for rapid Demon Gauge filling.
Demon Mode Basic Combo
In Demon Mode, perform Demon Fangs, Twofold Demon Slash, Sixfold Demon Slash, finishing with Triangle/Y + Circle/B (Demon Flurry I).
Archdemon Mode Blade Dance Combo
Begin with Blade Dance (Triangle/Y + Circle/B) in Demon Mode, then press R2/RT four times to chain Demon Flurry I, Blade Dance II, Demon Flurry II, and Blade Dance III for devastating damage.

Dual Blade Tips
Always Follow Up
Transition seamlessly between Demon and Archdemon Mode combos by starting with the basic Demon Flurry Rush combo (Circle/B three times), followed by three Triangle/Y + Circle/B presses.
Keep Your Stamina Up
Maintain high stamina to maximize Demon Mode uptime. Use Focus Strike to attack wounded monsters; it temporarily pauses stamina drain while still filling the Demon Gauge.
Dodging in Between Attacks
Utilize your mobility to dodge between attacks; the Dual Blades’ quick animations allow for strategic dodging.
Ensure Sharpness
Frequent attacks necessitate sharpening. Consider the Speed Sharpening skill to minimize downtime.
