Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership
FromSoftware has recently provided more details about its newly announced exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. The collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also the design of the hub area's keeper, introducing a unique, charming twist to FromSoftware's typical aesthetic.
During the Switch 2 Direct event, the trailer concluded with an intriguing shot of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, directly engaging the audience. This character, as it turns out, will serve as the hub companion in The Duskbloods. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, in an interview with Nintendo, elaborated on the role of this character, stating, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance."
Miyazaki further explained the inspiration behind the character's design, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership. We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."
FromSoftware's shrine keepers have traditionally been pivotal figures in their games, offering players essential guidance and support throughout their journeys. Characters such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have become familiar touchstones for players. In The Duskbloods, a PvPvE title, the winged rat will presumably offer unique advice and guidance. Miyazaki hinted at the game's innovative approach, mentioning that the team at FromSoft has "tried its hands at introducing a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should anticipate surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
