In a recent installment of Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Intergrade, an enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 title Final Fantasy VII Remake, serves as the first chapter in the trilogy reimagining the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG Final Fantasy VII. This PS5 edition features upgraded graphics and lighting, along with the Intermission DLC, which follows the spirited ninja Yuffie as she arrives in Midgar.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is currently available on PS5 and PC. Hamaguchi noted that the Switch 2’s advanced capabilities make it possible to bring the game to Nintendo’s portable console. “The Switch 2’s power allows us to fully recreate Midgar’s world,” he said.

“Playing this game in handheld mode on the Switch 2 lets you enjoy it during your commute,” Hamaguchi remarked, emphasizing how portability enables players to share their experience and progress with others on the go.

The Switch 2 edition will include GameChat, allowing players to connect with friends and share screens in real time. “I’m thrilled to see this title on a portable system,” Hamaguchi said, expressing optimism about a growing partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy franchise.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is confirmed for the Switch 2, Hamaguchi hinted at more to come, saying, “I hope fans are excited for the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2,” suggesting potential releases for Rebirth and the trilogy’s final chapter.

The Final Fantasy series began on Nintendo consoles before moving to the PlayStation 1’s CD-ROM format for the 3D Final Fantasy VII in 1997. With this remake, the franchise returns to Nintendo hardware.
