"Evil Dead: Game Removed From Stores 3 Years Post-Launch, Servers Stay Online"
The beloved asymmetric multiplayer game, *Evil Dead: The Game*, inspired by the iconic action horror franchise, is no longer available for purchase. Launched in 2022 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, it received an 8/10 from IGN, praised for its compelling gameplay despite its rough edges, much like the horror/comedies it drew inspiration from.
Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition a year later, the game struggled to maintain player engagement. The planned Nintendo Switch version was canceled in September 2023, and content development ceased. Now, three years after its initial launch, *Evil Dead: The Game* has been removed from digital storefronts by its publisher, Saber Interactive. However, existing owners can continue to enjoy the game as the servers will remain online.
Saber Interactive announced the decision on the game's Steam page, stating:
We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.
We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.
The move has sparked a wave of negative reviews on the game's Steam page, with many players expressing disappointment and declaring the game effectively dead. Despite this, it maintains a 'mixed' user review rating overall. One positive review from a dedicated player with over 380 hours of gameplay poignantly remarked, "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."
Saber Interactive, known for last year's successful *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2*, is currently working on several other licensed movie games, including *John Carpenter's Toxic Commando*, *Jurassic Park Survival*, and an untitled *Avatar: The Last Airbender* game. Additionally, *Turok: Origins* and *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3* are in development.
