Embrace Your Inner Ghoul

Fallout 76's latest update lets you roam Appalachia as a full-fledged Ghoul. Launched March 18th, Season 20, "The Ghoul Within," delivers ghoul-centric features, mechanics, and cosmetic options to revamp your gameplay.

This update introduces Ghoulification, achieved by completing the "Leap of Faith" questline. This quest takes you to a new area of the Savage Divide, where you'll meet new characters who aid your transformation. Becoming a Ghoul unlocks unique abilities—Glow and Feral—along with 30 exclusive perks ("Gherks").

The Feral ability replaces hunger and thirst, providing stat boosts based on your Feral meter. However, letting it reach 0% unleashes extreme gameplay changes: "+150% Melee Damage, but -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, and -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."

The Glow ability lets you consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and—as the name suggests—making you glow. Glow also increases your maximum health, heals damage, and boosts Ghoul-exclusive perks.

Choose from 28 new perks and 2 legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that perks related to hunger, thirst, and chem resistance are unavailable to Ghouls.

Life as a Ghoul

Ghoulification makes exploring the irradiated wasteland significantly easier thanks to your new abilities and perks. However, factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may become hostile, potentially blocking certain questlines.

Fortunately, a new NPC, Jaye, provides disguises, allowing you to bypass these restrictions. If you decide Ghoul life isn't for you, you can revert to human form via the Character Screen. This is a one-way trip; you can't repeat the "Leap of Faith" quest. Instead, Ghoul retransformation is available for 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.

Level 50 Character Boost and Patch Notes

Season 20 also includes a Level 50 Character Boost (1500 Atoms), providing significant advantages for new and veteran players alike. This boost grants access to Daily Ops, Public Events, and story content, allowing immediate participation in multiplayer features.

The patch also includes bug fixes, balance adjustments, accessibility improvements, combat balancing, weapon damage changes, and more. Bethesda also announced the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update for April 29th.

Released in November 2018, Fallout 76 has undergone significant improvements. With consistent updates, including Season 20, it now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam (76% positive reviews). Fallout 76 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
