Unlocking Fishing in *Monster Hunter Wilds*
To start fishing, chat with Kanya at the Forest Base Camp in the Scarlet Forest (accessible in Chapter 1). She's by the pond. Talking to her unlocks the fishing rod, the Common Wood Minnow lure, and the "Fishing: Life, in Microcosm" side quest. This quest is the first of many, eventually unlocking better bait for rarer fish.
