Initially, a special Matte Black style was offered exclusively to players using Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as permanently obtainable. The abrupt announcement of its removal, therefore, caused significant backlash.

Some disgruntled fans even considered legal action, threatening a class-action lawsuit, believing the change violated established terms. However, Epic Games swiftly reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single match on an Xbox Series S|X.

This reversal appears to be the most sensible outcome. Given the festive Christmas season, angering players with such a sudden policy change would have been highly detrimental.
