Game Informer Returns Under Neill Blomkamp's Studio Leadership
Exciting news for gaming enthusiasts: Game Informer is making a triumphant return, a little over half a year after GameStop closed it down in August 2024. The entire team is back, ready to dive into the world of gaming once again. In a heartfelt 'Letter From the Editor,' Game Informer Editor-In-Chief Matt Miller announced that Gunzilla Games has acquired the rights to Game Informer from GameStop. This acquisition is set to revive not just the editorial team, but also the broader production efforts.
For those new to the scene, Gunzilla Games is the creative force behind the free-to-play extraction battle royale game, Off the Grid, which is currently in Early Access. They are also developing GunZ, a "Layer-1 blockchain ecosystem" designed to enhance community-driven economies within AAA games, including Off the Grid. Adding to their impressive roster, Gunzilla Games has Neill Blomkamp, the acclaimed director of District 9 and Chappie, serving as their chief creative officer and co-founder.
Game Informer is back! The entire team is returning and we can't wait to reconnect. Come join us to celebrate the best in games, the people who make games, and the people who play games from around the world.

Miller emphasized that Gunzilla Games is committed to preserving Game Informer's editorial independence. The new owners "insisted on the idea of Game Informer remaining an independent editorial outlet," ensuring that the editorial team retains full control over content decisions, free from any external influence. This commitment to independence has led to the establishment of Game Informer Inc., bringing back the over 30-year legacy of the website that was abruptly shut down last August.
The team has been busy during their hiatus, preparing "dozens" of new game reviews and their Best of 2024 awards to ensure no gap in coverage. Fans of the print magazine will be pleased to know it's set to return, though at a later date, with plans to be "bigger and better than it was before." In the coming weeks, Game Informer will introduce membership and subscription benefits, expand their video, streaming, and feature coverage, and seek to broaden their range of experts and partnerships to bring fresh perspectives to their audience.
Interested readers can create a new Game Informer account to stay updated on all the latest happenings. Early benefits for new account holders include access to the Game Informer Magazine Archive, an exclusive weekly newsletter, Dark Mode, and Early-Bird Founder Access.
