Gellar Returns for Buffy Reboot

Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead. Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role as the vampire slayer. While the series will focus on a new Slayer, Gellar’s involvement is rumored to be as a recurring character.

Adding to the excitement, Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao (known for Nomadland and Eternals) is reportedly in talks to direct and executive produce. Nora and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original series creator Joss Whedon is not involved in this reboot.

PlayWhile Whedon spearheaded the original *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* series and its film adaptation, he faced accusations of creating a toxic work environment during production of the TV show and its spin-off, *Angel*.

Plot details remain scarce beyond the focus on a new Slayer and the possibility of Gellar's return.

The original series followed Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to battle supernatural forces. Aided by her friends Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and Watcher Rupert Giles, she fought demons, vampires, and otherworldly creatures for seven seasons (1997-2003). A spin-off, Angel, ran concurrently, and the story continued through official comic books.
