Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Details

Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and design.

Key features showcased include a noticeable size increase, approaching the dimensions of Valve's Steam Deck. The mockup demonstrated magnetic Joy-Con controllers, featuring a novel detachment mechanism utilizing pins released by large buttons on each Joy-Con. Despite the magnetic design, CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed secure functionality during gameplay. Furthermore, the Joy-Con's mounting channels incorporate optical sensors, hinting at potential mouse-like functionality via a yet-to-be-released accessory.

Additional details confirmed by Tsai include a second USB-C port and a mysterious "C" button, the purposes of which remain unknown. While the Switch 2's increased size allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility.

The Genki mockup provided valuable insights into the upcoming Switch 2, confirming prior speculation and generating further intrigue surrounding its unannounced features.
