Godzilla vs. Los Angeles Aids Wildfire Relief
IDW Publishing and Toho's "Godzilla vs. America" series continues its monstrous rampage with Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, hitting shelves April 30, 2025. This standalone special features four distinct stories depicting Godzilla's destructive foray into the City of Angels.
The creative team boasts a stellar lineup including Gabriel Hardman (Green Lantern: Earth One), J. Gonzo (Image Comics’ La Mano del Destino), Dave Baker (Mary Tyler Moorehawk), and Nicole Goux (Shadow of the Batgirl). Expect Godzilla battling giant lowrider mechs, wreaking havoc in theme parks, and even interacting with the city's surprisingly extensive subway system. The overarching theme? Angelenos uniting against a colossal threat.
Given the recent devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, IDW acknowledges the sensitive timing of the release. In a show of solidarity and support, IDW has pledged to donate all proceeds from Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc), directly assisting bookstores and comic shops impacted by the fires. The publisher released a letter to retailers and readers expressing their commitment to the community and explaining their decision.
Associate editor Nicolas Niño shared his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the collaboration with talented Los Angeles-based artists and the opportunity to celebrate the city's resilience in the face of adversity. He emphasized that the comic serves as a celebration of Los Angeles' spirit, even amidst challenging circumstances. The final order cutoff for Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 is March 24, 2025.
