Halo-Portal Shooter Splitgate Unveils Sequel
1047 Games, the creators of the popular "Halo meets Portal" shooter, Splitgate, have announced a sequel! Get ready for Splitgate 2, launching in 2025.
Splitgate 2: A Fresh Take on Portal Combat
Revealed on July 18th with a cinematic trailer, Splitgate 2 aims to build upon the original's success, promising a decade-long lifespan. While retaining the core arena shooter mechanics, the developers emphasized a focus on refining the gameplay loop for a more rewarding and lasting experience. The team specifically addressed portal mechanics, stating their goal was to create a system that challenges skilled players while remaining accessible to all.
Built using Unreal Engine 5, Splitgate 2 will remain free-to-play and introduce a new faction system. While familiar elements will return, the developers assure players that the sequel will feel entirely distinct from its predecessor. The game is confirmed for release on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One in 2025.
New Factions, Maps, and More
The trailer showcased the Sol Splitgate League and three unique factions: Aeros (dash-based mobility), Meridian (tactical time manipulation), and Sabrask (brute force). While details remain scarce, the developers clarified that Splitgate 2 will not be a hero shooter in the style of Overwatch or Valorant.
Further gameplay details are expected at Gamescom 2024 (August 21-25). However, the developers confirmed the trailer accurately depicts the game's visuals, weapons, and portal mechanics, even teasing the return of dual-wielding.
No Single-Player, But a Richer Lore
Splitgate 2 will not feature a single-player campaign. Instead, a mobile companion app will offer comics and character cards, allowing players to delve deeper into the game's lore and even take a quiz to determine their ideal faction.
The legacy of Splitgate continues, promising a fresh and exciting experience for both veterans and newcomers alike.
