Should You Hand Over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
In *Avowed*, one of the earliest significant choices players face is whether to hand over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis. This decision leads to vastly different outcomes, ranging from a bad ending to a somewhat favorable one. This guide delves into the consequences of giving Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas.
What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
When you engage in conversation with Sargamis, it becomes clear that withholding the Splinter will not end well. True to his word, if you outright refuse to give him the Splinter, Sargamis will confront you in battle. In *Avowed*, he is treated as an optional boss with a notable name and a significant health bar, making him a formidable opponent early in the game.
During the fight, Sargamis summons two spirit creatures that primarily target Kai, leaving you relatively unharassed. His combat style includes rapid thrusting attacks with his sword, allowing him to close distances quickly. However, he is susceptible to being frozen, so equipping ice spells can be advantageous to slow him down.
Defeating Sargamis rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon that not only restores three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy but also adds a ten percent bonus to fire damage in your attacks.
What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?
After agreeing to give Sargamis the Splinter, you face three possible paths. You can change your mind, leading to a confrontation with Sargamis. Alternatively, you can persuade him to enter the statue himself, resulting in his death and granting you the Last Light of Day mace. The third option involves offering yourself to the statue, which splits into further choices.
If you choose to stand in the circle as directed by Sargamis and wait for him to activate the machine, you will die but earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading *Avowed* will place you back at the point before entering the circle. If you decide to leave the circle when Sargamis tells you to stand still, he will become enraged and attack you.

How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed
The optimal approach to resolving the Splinter of Eothas dilemma is to convince Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. If you need to adjust your stats, refer to our *Avowed* respec guide. Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then discuss the failed attempt with him. Persuade him that his plan will not succeed, and he will abandon it.
To initiate this path, selecting the Court Augur or Arcane Scholar background options is advisable, though other backgrounds might offer similar choices. Guide Sargamis to understand that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option regarding live soul transfer.
After Sargamis leaves, you can decide whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters for a final conversation. Completing this segment of the Dawntreader quest this way will yield more experience than engaging in combat or handing over the Splinter.
This guide covers the decision of whether to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in *Avowed*. For those new to Obsidian's latest RPG, check out our *Avowed* beginner's guide for essential tips.
