Hungry Horrors: Steam Demo Out Now, Mobile Soon
Hungry Horrors, the quirky new roguelite deckbuilder from UK-based Clumsy Bear Studio, is set to redefine the genre with a deliciously unique twist. Instead of battling monsters, players will find themselves cooking up a storm to satisfy the voracious appetites of folklore creatures. The game has just released its first playable demo, now available on Steam, Itch, and GOG, offering an early taste of this innovative gameplay.
Following its initial release on PC, Clumsy Bear Studio plans to expand Hungry Horrors to mobile and console platforms. While no official release date has been announced yet, fans can dive into the demo to experience the game's charm firsthand. The studio has been actively engaging with the community, showcasing Hungry Horrors at events like the London Game Festival 2025.
The Steam demo of Hungry Horrors offers a substantial preview of the full game. Players can explore two handcrafted biomes, serve six different hungry monsters, engage in two boss fights, and interact with four NPCs. Additionally, non-combat zones like the Nook and the Trove provide areas for players to regroup and refine their culinary strategies.
More About Hungry Horrors
In Hungry Horrors, you play as a princess tasked with preparing traditional British and Irish dishes to appease a variety of folklore creatures. The game ingeniously combines deckbuilding mechanics with culinary arts, resulting in a uniquely engaging experience. With its retro pixel art and gothic atmosphere, the game's humor shines through as you whip up dishes like Bara Brith and Cranachan to cater to the specific tastes of each monster.
You'll encounter legendary creatures such as Jenny Greenteeth, the blood-thirsty swamp witch, and Black Annis, the child-snatching hag with iron claws. If your culinary creations don't meet their expectations, you might end up on their menu instead! The challenge lies in deciphering each monster's preferences and aversions, from Grendel's sweet tooth to Redcap's aversion to fish.
The deckbuilding aspect adds a strategic layer to the game. Players must skillfully combine ingredients and utilize utensils, spices, and herbs to enhance their dishes. Balancing flavor profiles and planning meals strategically is key to success. As you progress, you'll unlock new recipes, ingredients, legendary artifacts, and even rescued familiars to aid your culinary journey.
