Insomniac Games Mulls Over Second Ratchet and Clank Film
Insomniac Co-Studio Heads Discuss Future Amidst Founder's Retirement
Insomniac Games, renowned for titles like Ratchet and Clank, has expressed a keen interest in further exploring game-to-screen adaptations. This revelation came from co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider during a recent interview with Variety, following the announcement of the retirement of founder and long-time CEO Ted Price.
Insomniac Games Explores More Game-to-Screen Adaptations
Schneider reflected on the 2016 Ratchet and Clank film, which received mixed reviews, and shared the studio's enthusiasm for future projects. "I think back to the Ratchet and Clank film from several years ago. And we kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular," he stated. Since their acquisition by Sony in 2019, Insomniac Games feels optimistic about their future in game-to-screen adaptations, leveraging Sony's proven track record with successes like The Last of Us.
Sony's Impressive Lineup of Video Game Adaptations
Sony has demonstrated its prowess in adapting video games into movies and TV series. Notable successes include the Uncharted film in 2022 and the critically acclaimed The Last of Us TV series in 2023. At the recent CES 2025 press conference, Sony announced several upcoming projects: The Last of Us Season 2 is set to premiere on HBO in April 2025, an Until Dawn live-action film will also debut in April 2025, and the Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series is slated for Crunchyroll in 2027. Additionally, feature films for Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn are in development, though specific release dates have yet to be disclosed.
Ted Price Retires After 30 Years at Insomniac Games
In conjunction with the interview, Ted Price, the founder and CEO of Insomniac Games, announced his retirement after over three decades of service. Under his leadership, Insomniac developed iconic franchises such as "Spyro the Dragon," "Ratchet & Clank," and "Marvel’s Spider-Man." Price explained, "I actually made this decision last year. For me, after over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team."
The company's leadership will now be shared by three seasoned Insomniac veterans: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, who will serve as Co-Studio Heads. Price emphasized the importance of this transition, stating, "I believe strongly that for us to continue our success, we need leaders at the top who are intimately familiar with how we do things, leaders who have helped build our culture and our processes, and who have earned people’s trust."
