Japanese Switch 2 Priced Lower than Global Version
The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a unique pricing strategy, varying between Japan and the rest of the world. This new gaming console will come in two distinct versions: a Japanese-language system exclusive to Japan, and a Multi-Language System available worldwide.
Switch 2 Will Have 2 Language System Versions
In Japan, the Nintendo Switch 2 with a Japanese-language system will be priced at approximately $330. In contrast, the Multi-Language System version, designed for global markets, will be priced at $449.99, creating a significant price gap of over $100. This difference is largely influenced by the weakened yen against the US dollar, which also impacts tourist purchasing behavior in Japan.
Residents of Japan will have the option to purchase the Multi-Language System version, but the Japanese-language system will be exclusively available within Japan. Only Nintendo Accounts set to Japan as the Country/Region can be linked to this version. Moreover, the Japanese version supports only the Japanese language and is limited to software available on the Japanese Nintendo eShop.
For those interested in using the Switch 2 in languages other than Japanese, Nintendo recommends purchasing the Multi-Language System version. Further details about this version will be disclosed on April 4.
Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store
To acquire the Nintendo Switch 2, customers must participate in a lottery system available through the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, retailers and online shops across Japan will start accepting reservations or lottery entries from April 24, based on stock availability. To enter the lottery at the My Nintendo Store, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- By February 28, 2025, have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software, excluding demo and free software.
- At the time of application, have a cumulative subscription of at least one year to Nintendo Switch Online and be an active subscriber.
More information regarding the application process will be available on the My Nintendo Store starting April 4.
