Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to take on the role of the iconic character Lobo in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, originates from the now-extinct planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.

Momoa has expressed his excitement about portraying Lobo, citing the character as his favorite from the comics. He highlighted the aesthetic similarities between himself and Lobo, adding to his enthusiasm for the role. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa gave fans a brief glimpse into what they can expect from Lobo's debut in the film. He mentioned being nervous yet thrilled about the opportunity, emphasizing that his portrayal would closely resemble the comic version, complete with a cool bike and a rough, gruff demeanor.

While Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is centered around Supergirl, Momoa clarified that Lobo's screen time would be limited, stating, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit." This suggests that Lobo's role, though impactful, will be a cameo of sorts within the larger narrative.

The film, which began production in January, stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Alcock in the role, though it revealed little about the movie's plot. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.

The cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in the rebooted DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, set to release earlier in the summer of 2026. Another DCU film, Clayface, is scheduled for September 2026.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.
