Jon Bernthal's Punisher Returns in Marvel Special Post-Daredevil: Born Again
Jon Bernthal's iconic portrayal of The Punisher is set to make a thrilling comeback following the first season of Daredevil: Born Again. This time, fans can look forward to a Marvel special that echoes the style of the Guardians of the Galaxy specials. Adding an exciting twist, Bernthal will not only reprise his role but also co-write the special alongside Reinaldo Marcus Green, the director known for We Own This City.
Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television, described the upcoming project as a "shotgun blast of a story" that promises to blend intense action with the deep emotional resonance characteristic of Frank Castle's tales. "It's so exciting," Winderbaum remarked, highlighting the anticipation surrounding this unique addition to the Marvel universe.

This news arrives amidst Marvel Television's broader plans to bring back the Defenders on Disney+. The street-level superhero team, featuring Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, last captivated audiences on Netflix before their episodes were transitioned to Disney+ and officially integrated into the MCU canon.
Brad Winderbaum shared his enthusiasm for the project, noting the unique challenges and opportunities of storytelling within the MCU on television. "Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it," he explained. "We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."
Daredevil: Born Again, scheduled for release on March 4, continues the saga that began on Netflix. It will feature the return of beloved characters including The Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). The series introduces a new threat in the form of the artistically inclined serial killer Muse, promising a gripping narrative that will captivate fans of the original series and newcomers alike.
