Kieran Culkin Set to Portray Caesar Flickerman in 'Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'
Kieran Culkin, renowned for his captivating performances in "Succession" and "A Real Pain," has been officially cast as the young Caesar Flickerman in Lionsgate's upcoming adaptation of "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping." The announcement, which puts an end to months of speculation, was made by Lionsgate on X/Twitter, stirring excitement among fans eager to see Culkin bring his unique flair to the iconic role.
"Sunrise on the Reaping" serves as another prequel in the beloved Hunger Games series, set after the events of "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" (2023) and well before the original films starring Jennifer Lawrence. In this new installment, Culkin steps into the shoes previously filled by Stanley Tucci, who portrayed the older Caesar Flickerman in the films that concluded in 2015. Erin Westerman, Co-President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, praised Culkin's casting, stating, "Kieran’s scene-stealing presence and undeniable charm are perfect for Caesar Flickerman, the sickeningly watchable host of Panem’s darkest spectacle. Stanley Tucci made Caesar unforgettable—and now Kieran will make the role entirely his own."
Culkin's recent accolades, including a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award for his role in "A Real Pain," underscore his ability to captivate audiences. His earlier work in films like "Father of the Bride" and "Home Alone" alongside his brother Macaulay Culkin, showcases his versatility and enduring appeal. His quick wit and charm make him an ideal fit for the role of the dystopian TV host in "Sunrise on the Reaping."
Scheduled for release on November 20, 2026, "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" will adapt Suzanne Collins' novel, featuring a stellar cast including Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy. As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how Culkin and the ensemble cast will bring this latest chapter of the Hunger Games saga to life on the big screen.
