If you've been following our site for a while, you might remember we reviewed the quirky battle royale title King of Crabs back in 2019. Although it didn't quite resonate with our reviewer at the time, developer Robot Squid is revisiting the franchise with their upcoming release, King of Crabs - Invasion.

Yes, developer Robot Squid has decided to pivot from the battle royale genre and instead target the RTS niche. Echoing titles like Age of War, King of Crabs - Invasion challenges you against an opponent on a linear battlefield.

You must strategically select which units to deploy, aiming to overwhelm your adversary before they destroy you. This includes everything from standard crab swarms and catapults to mace-wielding crustaceans. However, with varied battlefields and obstacles, victory is easier said than done.

Crab RaveIt's evident that King of Crabs - Invasion takes the chaotic fun of the original and adapts it to a new genre. For such an irreverent concept as crabs fighting to the death, transitioning into a simple yet engaging RTS feels like a logical evolution.

That said, given Cameron's earlier critique that the initial King of Crabs concept didn't hold up well under scrutiny, I'm concerned that the fresh humor in King of Crabs - Invasion might fade quickly. But there is only one way to know: download it on May 30th and find out for yourself!
