Larian Studios, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3, has announced a shift in focus to their next major project, enforcing a "media blackout" for the foreseeable future. Despite the much-anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 set to release this year, Larian's full attention is now on crafting their next title.

Reflecting on their journey, Larian's CEO Swen Vincke recently tweeted about the studio's remarkable success with Baldur’s Gate 3 and hinted at more to come. "But the story ain't over yet," Vincke teased, suggesting exciting developments ahead.

In a statement to VideoGamer, Larian confirmed that their entire team is now dedicated to developing a new game, distinct from the Baldur’s Gate series and not set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. This move comes after unsuccessful attempts to generate internal enthusiasm for a Baldur’s Gate sequel.

While details about the new project remain scarce, Vincke previously hinted at its ambitious scope in November 2023. Responding to Baldur’s Gate 3's numerous nominations at The Game Awards, he expressed excitement about pushing boundaries with their next game. Additionally, in July 2023, Vincke mentioned the possibility of returning to the Divinity: Original Sin series, though no immediate plans were confirmed.

Speculation abounds about the nature of Larian's next venture. Could it be a foray into science fiction, a modern-day setting, or even a new genre entirely?
