During a Bonfire Conversations podcast, game director Mateusz Lenart shared that the team explored the idea of a grim, immersive horror experience set within the dark corners of Middle-earth.

Unfortunately, securing the rights to the franchise proved unsuccessful, leaving the project unrealized. Despite this setback, fans widely believe the concept held immense potential, citing the wealth of dark and unsettling narratives within Tolkien's works as ideal for crafting a truly terrifying atmosphere.

Currently, Bloober Team's focus is on their new title, Cronos: The New Dawn, and potential future collaborations with Konami on Silent Hill projects. Whether they will revisit their Lord of the Rings horror concept remains uncertain, but the prospect of a game featuring terrifying imagery of Nazgûl or Gollum certainly piques the interest of many.
